Setting up Sites within AD

By mgonzales ·
I just upgraded our PDC and BDC at our corporate offices. In an attempt to upgrade a domain controller thats in a seperate IP subnet am I required to setup different sites within the site and services of 2000 or can I have all servers belong to the same site?

One AD Best Practice is to keep the number of AD sites to a minimum.

The primary reasons to create multiplt sites is communications related.

MS recommends that all computers within a single site be well-connected (bandwidth-wise).

Sites can help optimize such network traffic as logons, and AD database replication by determining where users log on, and how and when replication takes place.

As long as all your physical sites have coonections with reasonable bandwidth, there is no need to create multiple sites. The mere fact that you have different IP subnets is not a reason to create multiple sites.

Hope this helps.
