Share a DB with others w/o Access 2K

By dave ·
I am trying to create a unified report between several of my offices, I have created a database that will allow entry of the information and provide the reports I need, however several of my offices do not have Any version of access. It should never need updates.
Is there a way I package this on a CD and send it to them?

I believe the best solution for your problem would be a standalone executable database. MS FoxPro has the ability to create executable databases, that you can distribute. Try checking this product. If you can't spend any $$$ on software... maybe Access's report snapshot feature can help you. It allows you to create a snapshot of a report, that can be distributed and viewed with the help of a small utility call "Snapshot Viewer" (this is installed with Access and requires no additional licensing).

Hope this helps.

Paulo

How certain are you that it will never need updates? If you're not 100% certain, you may want to reconsider sending a version out to the offices. One of the great features of Access 2000 is turning your forms into web pages, which could allow themto use the functionality you build in Access over the web.

Having been in the situation of "never needing to update" a database before, I know that only in rare circumstances is that really the case. A unique bug here, a fix there, a little new functionality, and pretty soon it's twice the size, and everyone is running a different version of it.

Depending on the information you're after, you might also consider having them put the data in an Excel spreadsheet, e-mailing it to you and importing it in (which you can automate).
