Share Outlook Calendar/No Exch Server

By zepolie ·
I have 2 end users who would like to share an Outlook Calendar. Office is not large enough to justify purchasing Exchange Server. They don't want to learn another software package. Network consists of small Win2K server and approx 6 Win2K prof. clients. Internet access/firewall/DSL installed, but they don't want a web-based solution. What's an administrator to do??

Sorry, that's the first place I went to, showed it to my supervisor and he turned it down. He says that the net share folders aren't reliable. I printed the whole article for him to look at he didn't find anything we could use there.

Well, did you try setting up a new .PST file on a shared folder on your Win2K Server, giving the 2 users rights to the file, then adding connections to this PST in both of their copies of Outlook? Each Outlook can be connect to more than 1 .PST file, and they all show in the Folder List.
That way, both users could make Calendar entries in the shared PST file, and they would both be able to see the entries?
Just an idea.
hope this helps

I thought of this answer too, even tried it, and I found that it didn't work, at least not on my test workstations.

The bad news is even Joseph's suggestion won't work - 2 users cannot share a pst. I'm afraid you're doomed to getting a seperate app for this (or Exchange as you know). I've used Schedule+ in the past for these cases. It's a Microsoft product & as such is relatively similar to Outlook's calendar. I'm not sure if it's still available though. Did it used to come with Office 95?

Otherwise try download.com to see what else is out there (preferably for free).

I'm going to give the points to you because I believe that you're absolutely right. I read about Schedule+ today and I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. I've also been to a few of the larger freeware and shareware sites I could find. Wish a software developer would come up with something to get around this issue. There are some programs that claim to, but I've tried their trial version on my test workstations, and I found that they just aren't reliable enough for my needs. Thanks to allfor your suggestions
