Shared contacts

I have a HP photosmart C6150 all in one printer. When I open up the fax window there is on the top left side an area that says Address book. When I click on the button that says select from, another window opens. In the second field their is the word contacts and a dropped down arrow. If you click on the arrow it is supposed to have shared contacts that you should be able to click (this would be your outlook contacts). My drop down doesn't have the choice. HP is no help. How do I get those contacts in there w/o having to enter each one manually.

Where did you find these instructions, specifically, where did you find anything that says 'this would be your Outlook contacts'?

To the best of my knowledge and I may be wrong, but as far as I know fax software has never auto-populated from an Outlook contact list. The contact list in the fax software is a separate list that you have to populate yourself.

So, I'm curious. What makes you think that your fax contact list would be your outlook contacts?

If you're having trouble configuring an HP product and an HP Tech told you it was capable of doing something, then call them back and ask them how to do it. Or, use the HP forums to ask for assistance.

The user's manual which is available online doesn't even mention a contact list, let alone instructions on how to import them from Outlook. So, unless one of us has that particular model in use, your chances of finding any help here are pretty slim.

Is this printer shared on network (connected via network cable and configured with IP address, gateway settings)

Normally, for network shared printer we can save (or export) outlook contact in csv format (for example contact.csv) and then upload it to printer using a HP provided third party utility or web interface.
You can edit csv in MS excel or wordpad as per printer requirement.

Thanks all for the assist. What needs to be done is first import ms office outlook contacts into outlook express. Then the names will automatically appear.

Just remember, it's not going to be automatically updated when you change your Outlook contact information. You'll need to periodically re-import back into Outlook Express and either skip duplicates or completely wipe out the contacts in Outlook Express and import them all over again.

It's either that or manually change the printer when you've updated something in Outlook.
