(Shared) File is in use by "username"

By sugus5 ·
I have a user that is complaining that sometimes when they open a shared file, the 'username' field is blank. They are wanting the name of the user to appear every time they open a file, usually excel, that is being used. I am not sure where to start looking - is this problem associated with a setting in the other users' profiles? I am assuming that everyone is logged into their computer with their profiles otherwise they wouldn't have permission to access the share.

I believe that the name is pulled from the registered owner of the software. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\UserInfo

The key you provided was to change the company name but that was already correct. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though.

To change the USER NAME information in all Office 2003 programs, I found that the setting only needs to be entered in one program.
ie. In excel 2003: Tools> Options> enter name in User Name field> OK.;en-us;821550&spid=2488&sid=493
