Shared printer-1 PC can’t print to it

by austinconsultant . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

-Setup: 9 computers/Win98 peer-to-peer using NetBEUI and IPX/SPX protocols. Primary usage is a medical office DOS program running in Windows being used by 6 PC’s concurrently.
-I setup a new HP 1100 printer on one workstation to be shared. Everyone can print to this printer consistently except 1 PC. The 4 PC’s in this area capture LPT1 to print to this printer. This 1 pc will always print a Windows test page. It almost always has the capture activated correctly on Windows startup. When I first capture the port on it, it prints correctly. The next moment or day it does not. I have confirmed it not printing when the capture is active.
-I moved the printer to this problem PC. It printed fine consistently but the previous direct-to-printer pc could not print to the printer. These 2 computers can share files if required although this is not needed.
-I have reinstalled the network protocols and the NIC on the problem pc to no avail.
-There is an HP LJ IV shared printer in another area that all these computers can always print to and is captured on LPT2.

Help would be much appreciated!
Thank you… Lamar
