sharing dialup internet w/2 win 98 comp

By debbies ·
I have one dialup connection to the internet, two pcs with 10/100 ethernet cards and a four port hub. they are setup for file and printer sharing.
I have installed internet sharing on computer A and it prompted me to make a disk and use it to setup computer B, which I did. But I still can not get computer B on to the internet. I gave both pc's a static IP and pointed computer B to look for computer A. HELP

Hi Debbie,

I can not give you an exact answer without out knowing more about which NIC cards you are using.

If you would like to know more about building a home LAN check out this link.

Good luck and have a great day.

look in network properties and make sure TCP/IP is installed and "associated" with the network cards. silly Microsoft seems to install new NICS with NETBEUI and IPX/SPX, but not TCP/IP by default. also it will be helpful to know if the network actually works for file/print sharing... maybe a bad hub or cable or protocol or something...

I have gotten some good responses to my question thanks. But I realized I left out some info. I am able to ping both A & B from both A & B. file and print sharing is on and B can see A and get into A but I am having trouble with A seeing and getting into B. A is gateway 400, B is a HP 600. My printer is hooked up to A and I can print from B.

ah yes the problem remains. Okay i had this exact problem about 1 month ago and after much pointless messing around with the u'beaut windows internet sharing i decided to go somewhere else.

There are many 'better' programs out there that have next to nothing to do with your operation system. the best ones are ishare and winproxy with both run very well over small and big networks.

im reality i recommend ishare because its simple and easy to use. no F*&$#ng around.!
