Sharing distribution lists

By berninga ·
I am in desperate need of the ability to share distribution lists with Outlook XP and 2003 with other users. I have followed the directions for doing so a million times, read everything I can find online, and still, no joy. The recipient receives either a blank attachment, or a list containing only my address. Help!!

Are the other computers also using Outlook 2002(XP) and 2003?
If not, it may be a backwards compatibility issue.

Does the computer that you want to share the list with have all of the contacts in their contacts folder?
If you are using a tool to do this then maybe the tool expects the contacts to already be in your contacts folder.

There is no easy way to share lists. The best method would be to Export the Contacts folder to a .pst file and then import the entire folder into a blank login. Clean up any extra contacts that are not needed. Export it again, and then import it into the new user. Keep in mind that a 2003 .pst file is probably not backwards compatible with older versions of Outlook.

Hope this helps,

It helped! Helped me think about it the right way anyhow.

For what I needed, I ended up creating a sub-folder under Contacts with the addresses we needed to have in the Distribution List - exported only that folder as a comma delimited file, added the sub folder to the other user's Contacts, and imported to it. Once imported, they created a list from the contacts created. A bit involved for my users, but it got the job done.

So, thanks!!!
