Sharing Outlook Calendar

By dksells ·
This is a topic that I'm sure many have encountered. I have a small business client that needs to share Outlook calendar over the network. Right now they have a peer - peer network, but we'll be installing a linux smb server soon.

Does anybody know of a good way to share Outlook without the exorberant cost of MS Exchange server. I know you can move the .pst file to a central location to be shared, but, due to the file locking feature only one client can access it at a time. This could cause some big headaches.

Are there viable Open Source solutions to do this using Linux? Mozzilla is working on Sunbird, but it's not yet ready.

Has anyone conquered this situation?

Well, if you want a single calendar that everyone uses you can use Yahoo calendar. Or if you have your own web server you can search the Internet for ASPCalendar.

Save as Web form

You can export the calendar as a web form and post it to your linux server. This will allow multiple users to view the schedule. Unfortunately if you want to take full advantage of the calendar feature you'll need exchange. One option you might want to look at is MS Small Business Server. It gives you exchange for a very reasonable price.
