Shortcut to provide generated password with current password by Keychain?

    Locked

    by gavottetreat03 ·

I need help with providing old password together with generated password because both are required even though I have already login.
my problem is when Keychain pop up during password reset, Keychain provides existing password instead of auto filling existing and generated passwords.
What I remember doing to avoid Keychain provide existing password is to change password by switching from App Dialogue Box to Keychain after I login to change password; this created Problem that old password is no longer available.
I preferred Keychain over Apps due to security concerns.

      1. Use a device without KeyChain to change the password of the site you want to visit.
      2. On the device with KeyChain, the login will now fail because it still uses the old password. Then change it in the settings of KeyChain, and in the future it will use the new one.

KeyChain is an app also. So I don’t fully understand your last sentence. Can you explain?

What do you mean with “Shortcut”?

I suppose that, like all password managers, the KeyChain app remembers one username and one password for a site. So it can’t fill in 2 different passwords. Why should it?And how should it know?
It’s up to you to remember the new password (what do you mean with “generated”?) and tell KeyChain what it is. Or instead of remembering it or writing it on a piece of paper, you might be able to use copy/paste (from the change password form to KeyChain).

It sounds like you are facing a challenge with managing passwords and the interaction between your login credentials, Keychain, and the password reset process. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

      Update Keychain:

Open Keychain Access on your Mac.
Search for the website or app for which you are trying to reset the password.
Update the password in Keychain Access to the new one you’ve generated.
      Manually Input Old Password:

When prompted during the password reset process, manually input the old password. Even though Keychain may try to autofill, you should be able to type the old password into the required field.
      Keychain Preferences:

Open Keychain Access and go to Keychain Access > Preferences.
Under the “General” tab, make sure the box for “Show keychain status in menu bar” is checked.
In the menu bar, you will see a lock icon. Click on it and choose “Lock Screen” to lock your keychain.
      Temporary Keychain Unlock:

Unlock your keychain temporarily by clicking on the lock icon in the menu bar and entering your keychain password.
This may allow Keychain to provide the correct information during the password reset process.
      App-Specific Passwords:

Check if the website or app you are dealing with supports app-specific passwords. Some services allow you to generate passwords specifically for apps.
Consider Using a Different Password Manager:

If the issue persists and Keychain is causing difficulties, you might want to consider using a different password manager. Apps like 1Password, LastPass, or Bitwarden offer robust password management features.
      Review Security Preferences:

Check your Mac’s security preferences to ensure that Keychain Access is set up correctly and that it has the necessary permissions to interact with other applications.
      Contact Support:

If the problem persists and you are using a specific application or website, consider reaching out to their support. They might provide guidance on how to handle the password reset process with Keychain.
      Document Password Changes:

Keep a record of when you change passwords manually to avoid confusion. This can be done in a secure document or within your chosen password manager.
      Password Change Process:

Experiment with the sequence of changing your password. For example, try changing the password within the application first, then updating Keychain, or vice versa.
