Should blogging be a corporate mandate?

SHOULD BLOGGING BE A CORPORATE MANDATE?

A recent TechRepublic download, "Corporate blogging gives you a
competitive advantage that cannot be ignored," provides the findings of
the 2005 BackBoneMedia survey. The results "reveal that corporate blogs
are giving corporations and obscure brands the ability to connect with
their audiences on a personal level, to build trust, collect valuable
feedback and foster strengthened relationships."

It's not all about building that connection, of course. The study also
reports that it's "a company's blogging strategy that will produce the
strongest community goodwill, and that goodwill brings the most
marketing and sales returns." Translation: Make nice with the people
and they'll buy stuff from you.

Sounds like a good plan, but is there any way to truly build a
relationship with your customers if you're mandated to blog? Doesn't
that take all the sincerity out of the situation?

Is your company requiring you to blog? If so, do you have a formal
blogging policy in place? Do you have goals that your company blog
should accomplish? Share your thoughts and strategies on this subject
in this discussion.
