Should people let AI make decisions for them?

    by garloom26 ·

With the recent rise in popularity of Artificial Intelligence people have been utilizing AI to make decisions for them and planning days for them. Do you think this removes a sense of personality from an individual and/or gives AI the power to change people’s day-to-day lives? Is this good or bad for teens about to enter adulthood? Understandably, this is unlikely to be the case. Many people see AI as just another developing technology, not a tool or a decision maker. What is your opinion on AI affecting people’s personal lives?

      I thought so.

“Meta faces backlash as automated ad system drains budgets with little payoff”

AI was good for Meta, not so much for clients.

This is a really good point. I believe some people who are unable to do their own taxes and banking with most definitely turn to AI as a cheaper alternative. I could foresee some issues with letting an Artificial Intelligence have control over your financial decisions being a sort of privacy issue. I personally wouldn’t let such a tool have control over something so important.

Should People Rely on AI for Decision-Making?

People should use AI as a tool to assist in decision-making but not let it fully make decisions for them. It’s important to combine AI’s insights with personal judgment to maintain control and ensure decisions align with individual values and needs.

The obvious thing I first noticed was when I asked about the James Web Telescope which had been launched but not yet reached it’s location to be deployed not a single one of them found any reference to it.

My experience with all AI’s is that they make Bat Droppings look intelligent if that is any help but then again Politicians make Bat Droppings make look Intelligent.

So I suppose what do you prefer dumb as anything possible AI’s or Politicians? Currently we have both and I personally do not think there is enough room in the universe for both.

Letting AI make decisions depends on the context. AI can assist with data-driven, repetitive tasks, but for ethical, emotional, or critical decisions, human judgment remains essential. Use AI as a tool, not a replacement.

AI’s growing influence in decision-making raises important questions about individuality, autonomy, and the role technology should play in our lives. While AI can help optimize decisions, plan activities, and even assist with daily tasks, there’s a concern that relying too much on AI could diminish personal expression and decision-making skills. For teens, especially those transitioning into adulthood, this reliance on AI could potentially reduce opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as they might come to rely more on technology for direction. However, AI can also be a helpful tool if used wisely, offering support in areas where people might struggle or need assistance, like managing time or finding new opportunities. Ultimately, the key is balance — using AI as an assistant rather than a substitute for personal agency.

AI has definitely made a significant impact on decision-making, but it’s important to find a balance. While AI can help with tasks like scheduling or suggesting ideas, it’s essential for individuals to maintain control over their personal choices and retain their sense of personality. Especially for teens entering adulthood, developing critical thinking and decision-making skills is crucial for independence and self-growth. AI should be seen as a tool to assist, not replace, personal judgment and creativity. It’s all about using technology to enhance life without letting it dictate it.
