shutting off running programs

What do I type into thr run command to find out what programs are running, and to disable them?

then go to the startup tab to keep things from starting up.

Or, press ctrl -- alt -- del and look at the processes tab, and end task ones that you do not want.
But, doing this may make the system unstable, or reboot depending on the process being stopped. Note: Some will not stop, and others wil auto re-start.

I tend to prefer 'services.msc' as better advice . . .

Services.msc will result in a list of running process, NONE of which are 'system critical', thereby preventing a user from disabling something that will unduly affect system stability.

There's no substitute for user-curiosity but you can limit their level of danger.
