    “Slow” Excel file

    Locked

    by qb4006 ·

I have Office XP on a 2Ghz PC with 1GB of RAM and I have an excel file that is 2mb in size that opens and closes extremely slowly – it takes about 40 seconds to open. All other excel files open OK except for this one. The file doesn’t have any charts or pictures in it. It’s just numbers, text, formulas with 10 worksheets.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

I have Office XP service pack 2 including all recent patches. The file is on a file server just like all the other files. The other excel files work OK except this one. In fact no computer in the office can open this particular file with out having problems

Take a look here concerning putting your spreadsheet on a diet:

      Alo try Tools>Options Calculations.
Tuoff Automatic and Update remote references.
You’ll have to use F9 to update after it’s opened , but it may be worth a try.

The problem with obese speadsheets did not end in ’97.
As an experiment, go to one of your work sheets and hit Ctrl+End. This will take you to the “last” cell on the worksheet. If it goes anywhere beyond the last cell being used then your spreadsheet is pudgy.
