Slow keystrokes in Word XP

I have a user with an odd issue with Word XP. WHen they back space or use the space bar to leave extra spaces, the repeat rate is very slow. Slower than regular typing.

This user had been using the “track changes” feature but turned it off about a week ago. We’ve compared her option settings to a few different machines, and they are the same.

Any ideas were to look next? It’s only happening in Word.
