Slow MS Access during search query

By piyushmittaluts ·
I have 5 users working on a shared database in MS Access.. The number

of rows in the database is now 17k and very soon it will get double

from present number.

Now the problem is we are finding the database very slow when some

searchquery is given. To rectify this problem we have made the MDE

file of the database... removing the design code from the forms. but

there is only little improvement over the performance..

Plz don't tell to compact and repair option of the database as we are

doing this daily (4-5 times).

Thanx in advance.

Slow MS Access during search query

by kees.valkenswaard In reply to Slow MS Access during sea ...

With your enormous amount of information provided it is rather hard to tell what to do.
Have you normalized your database?
Have you indexed the main search fields?
Do you want to have all information on one form?
Why not contemplate a fast search for main items and a popup form for additional details? [if you use such a form do not forget to keep or install a close button!]
I use often double clicking in a specific field as the trigger to open a popup form with additional information related to that field.
If you have a form with many fields, perhaps on tab pages and with sub-forms it is just asking for a slow response.
It may be worthwhile considering different forms for search actions and for updating. If your form is not a Dynaset it may be faster.
Good luck.
