Slow Web Page Loads with Vista Home Basic

    Locked

    by edcalabrese ·

I have a new system with Windows Vista Home Basic. In either IE or Firefox, pages like Google and Yahoo load fine, but almost all other web pages take 3-5 minutes to completely load..

This computer is using the same connection that my old (now dead) XP machine used and is on the same router as my XP Pro laptop, neither of which had any issue.

So far, the manufacturer eMachines has been no help – only recommending things I had already tried and suggesting that I reload the machine.

    Any ideas?

I seem to have exactly the sme problem with a Dell laptop running vista premium 24 hrs old! It’s very fast at searching Google and quick at opening major sites such as the BBC and the useless Dell support, but anything interesting and it takes ages.

After 2 days of trying to resolve this issue, including the use of different NICs and drivers, and performing the steps recommended in a Microsoft article that described the problem very well, I finally reloaded Vista from CD and viola! The problem is resolved.

That seems odd that you would have to reload Vista considering it is a “new system” don’t you think?
