SMTP in IIS - Can't send to *.co.uk

By Ben_Kent_UK ·
I have recently set up an IIS SMTP server for all the mailing I do for a local band. It works perfectly for all domains except those ending in a .co.uk (or it appears so at least - I refuse this is just a co-incidence). I have set up *.co.uk as a remote domain under the domains branch (just as I have set up *.com *.net etc.) but its still does not work. Here is an example of one of the event logs:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: smtpsvc
Event Category: None
Event I 4000
Date: 08/10/2002
Time: 15:09:46
User: N/A
Computer: BENTATHAM
Description:
Message delivery to the remote domain 'whiskin.fsnet.co.uk' failed for the following reason: Unable to bind to the destination server in DNS.

Data:
0000: d5 02 04 c0 ?..?

any ideas??

SMTP in IIS - Can't send to *.co.uk

fisrt apologize my english.
I have an question. Domain whiskin.fsnet.co.uk exists ?
I think the problenm is the .co before of .uk
The .co belong to domains registered to Colombia country for this reason the error of DNS.
Do you attempt send email to whiskin.fsnet.com.uk?
If you send mails to domains finished in *.co.uk the problem will persist.

Ill give you credit that the above domain name does not exist, it was my bad .. I chose a bad example, but the fact is that .co.uk IS a valid domain extension, try pinging pilgrims.co.uk for example, you will get a reply. FYI I have tried adding simply "*.uk" into my domain listing in IIS to see if that works. Your answer did not really help but you were correct that the domain did not exist so I will give you credit for that.

To clarify what Adres pointed out, you are not referencing a TLD (Top Level Domain) in your address. It needs to be a .com.uk (the COM TLD and UK country code) for proper DNS resolution.

As far as I am aware this simply is not the case. .co.uk is perfectly valid, just not the domain I provided as an example. As I said to andres, try pinging pilgrims.co.uk for example, you will get a reply.

SMTP in IIS - Can't send to *.co.uk

From the IIS machine, type this in a command window:

PING whiskin.fsnet.co.uk

Betcha you get
Unknown host whiskin.fsnet.co.uk.

If that's the case, either the site isn't set up in DNS correctly, or your dns on the IIS machine isn't set up correctly.
