Social network analysis

By MaryWeilage Editor ·
This week's Application Developer Management e-newsletter discusses how to determine information flow through social network analysis (SNA). How do you think SNA could impact your organization? If you're already using this methodology to map your network, are you noticing any benefits thus far? Do you see any drawbacks to incorporating SNA into your management style? Share your thoughts and experiences about SNA.

Isn't this simply bypassing the management structure?

For a network issue, shouldn't you just contact the network department and trust them to give you the proper person and the right answers, the right SMEs?

This way you could take the time you use to manage your lists and put that into making sure your people are happy, rewarded, challenged...

That's fine when your managing an environment in which things never go rong. It's safe and it maintains the status quo. Nothing ventured, nothing lost.

I thought this article was a little gold nugget - more from a developer perspective than as a manager.

I've got "a guy" for so many things - one for Perl, one for VB.NET, a couple for MySQL, a couple for PERL. A couple of hardware guys, a couple of telecom guys.

Without all these SME's, I would be as dumb as a stump.
