By jhpjr1 ·
I'm using Windows Vista Business Edition. When I open any program on my computer I have been getting a message saying program "not responding" then after a delay the program will open up. This is true when I go to a website. When I am in a program for a while I get a message that will say "kill" or "end process" I have scan my computer using Norton 360 and it says I have nothing. What is my problem?

What are some of the specifications of your computer?

by wizard57m_cnet Moderator In reply to software programs

How much RAM? Hard drive size? CPU? Too little RAM memory is the most common cause of application errors, as is lack of hard drive space when one is too full. If your CPU is older, it may be pushing to its limit to run the applications. Need a bit more information to give better answers. Have you defragmented your hard drive? Could be fragmented files.

Also if the computer is older and has lots of software installed removed

The Registry can get messed up and cause problems like this.

Add and deleting programs adds to the Registry and the problems that can arise as a result can be more than slightly confusing.

speeding up internet

I always do everything I need to do, to speed up my computer. Is there a program that will speed it more. AT&T does not work for the speed I want?
Any suggestions?

It's not polite to hijack another's thread, BUT, short of changing internet service providers there probably isn't much you can do to increase internet speed.

A similar experience on my XP system proved to be a fading hard drive. You might consider a backup very soon.
