Sol 2.6 can’t ping default router

by scifiman . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

Network Detectives, help please! Sun 420R running Solaris 2.6 with one NIC. Originally installed host on our internal 10.0.0.0 network, but have moved it to the firewall’s DMZ segment (public IP addresses) and it is unable to ping the router or any public IP (now DNS used).

The DMZ also has two W2K Pro PC’s (our application runs on Win and Solaris) and they work normally, but the Sun just placed there can only ping those two W2K (all together on hub) but not the gateway or a public IP. Because the PC’s are getting out I’m assuming it isn’t the firewall as the filter would apply to everything on the DMZ side. Just to test, I also put the Sun directly on the “public” hub with the router and it still wouldn’t ping anything. Router andfirewall were rebooted at each step to flush tables.

I couldn’t find “sysidtool” to go through the config so I modified the following files to reflect it’s new location:
/etc/hosts
/etc/nodename
/etc/hostname.hme0
/etc/defaultrouter (points to same as PCs)
/etc/defaultdomain (was auvo.com, now is blank)
/etc/nsswitch.conf is using “files”; no DNS is set.
/etc/networks
/etc/netmasks (was class A, now is C

Can anyone suggest something I’ve over looked? Or tell me where “sysidtool” is so I can run through the network setup again. Thanks much!!

Regards,
David
