Solaris 7 - setup xerox printers

By patok ·
Has anyone used a xerox docuprint series LAN printer with solaris 7. How do you set it up, and does it work well?

first, get your printer on the net - either configure bye bootp - (ethers, bootparams - you can use "solstice" to set this up)
Then set your print queue up to print to the net card -
the trick is that you will print to the server (which is the name of the printer or ip address). The printer that you will print to is PS - or LP, depending on which printer embedded in the card you want to print to.
do a man on lpadmin, but your print line will look like...
/usr/lib/lpshut
/usr/lib/lpadmin -pXerox01 -v/dev/null -mrmodel -ormxerox01 -ob3 -orpPS

enable Xerox01a
/usr/lib/accept Xerox01

Good luck

If use Poscript, need to install the driver.
If use PCL try this:
Fisrt, insert a entry for the printer and its IP address in /etc/hosts, example "xerox1"

Then, add a queue, to LP spool:
# lpadmin -p x1 -s xerox1!PORT1

Do NOT change the name "PORT1", this is the internal queue name on Xerox Docuprint.

Hope this help.

Hi, Yes I have installed a Xerox printer
last year on a E250. You will need to download some drivers from Xerox. They have a GUI interface. You could also access the Xerox printer from the web (web server).
To do the setup under Solaris,
follow this step:

lpsystem -t bsd printername
lpadmin -p printername -s printername!lp
****
If it's printing in stair steping mode try this command:

lpadmin -p printername -s printername!printername_CR

lpadmin -p printername -T unknown -I any
Hope this help you...
