Some of my shortcut custom icons no longer works in Windows 11
Hello everybody
I’ve been a user of custom icons for almost everything in Windows, since Windows 95. I have custom icons for drives, folders and mainly for shortcuts.
All my icon files reside in a mapped network drive called Q: (the referenced path Q: points to is a shared folder in a physical drive G: into my own PC)Everything worked fine always, even in Windows 10, but when I migrate to Windows 11 my problem started. Several custom icons started to appear as blank icons.
With some work and some solutions I found that included icon library rebuild, I was able to recover my desktop custom icons, my folder/folder shortcuts custom icons, and the web page shortcuts custom icons. But my file shortcut icons still doesn’t work (I mean shortcuts pointing to files of any kind, as xlsx, docx, pdf, etc.), they still appear as blank icons. I just discovered that if I reference the path for the icon to the physical path (drive G:) they work, but those that are referenced to the mapped drive (Q:) does not.
In the Microsoft Comunity I received some help giving me tips about how to map a network drive in Windows 11, but my problem is not on mapping the network drive. The Q: drive is mapped as usual and it works fine for certain types of shortcuts. Even if I check the icon assigned to my file shortcuts into the properties window, this shows that the icon is the one I choose, I mean, the icon path is reached and the icon file is read. But the icon is shown as a blank icon anyway.I don’t really want to to loose the use of my specially designed icon mapped drive and substitute it with the physical drive path, I have hundreds of shortcuts customized with icons referenced to Q:
Is there any known solution? I’d appreciate any help. Thanks in advance
