Something is corrupted and I don’t know what it is

    by Crappy1919 ·

You see i have this Lenovo ThinkPad T420. Everything was well before and i dont really wanna go in complet detail. Basically there was a virus and the laptop was resseted. Usually the laptop would have no problem in windows 10 but then suddenly after the incident it has been acting strange. It is a bit slow and whenever i restart it just shuts down. Please help I’ve been trying to do this for nearly a month now. I just want my T420 back 🙁

If you don’t know what’s wrong, how can we know?

Since it seems this laptop is 10 years old, I wouldn’t spend much money on it. If a reset didn’t help and you don’t have an image backup, all you can do is a clean install (after deleting all partitions on the hard drive from your favorite bootable partition manager – for example GPARTED on a lot of Linus distro’s or on a dedicated CD). Be sure you have downloaded all needed drivers for your OS.
Or maybe a laptop from 2011 came with a recovery disk. That’s easier.

But it’s quite well possible this is some hardware issue, and the only solution is buying another laptop.

I have doubts of it being a hardware problem because when i changed it to windows 8.1 and use the sfc /scannow command. Everything goes smoothly and great. But it’s not the same thing for windows 10. I am noob at tech stuff.

For noobs who can’t get free local help for a 10 year old laptop and can’t fix the problem themselves, I’d recommend another laptop.

Today’s repair counter rates here are now 200+USD for just about anything you need done.

I hope this incentivises folk to learn how to make the usual Windows install media and perform clean installs followed by the necessary maker supplied drivers.

      Most common problem I see?

The owner installs Windows but doesn’t know about the drivers.
Also, the current Windows performs badly on HDDs. Over and over folk re-discover that HDDs are dead and gone.
