There are many solutions available but for a business server you want tomake an investment in a multifaceted solution.

Some products block based on RBL lists, yet will block too many wanted emails (false positives), others are mere address blocks that are ineffective because the sebders email addresses change too frequently. Others score on a keyword weighting system by analyzing the email for various phrases and adding up the various phrase matches. Once a predetermined 'weight' is reached, the email is considered spam. THIS is also ineffective ALONE.

There are many multi-scan engines out there that will combine these and other important checks to your email, but they require time and attention. The SPAM issue is NOT fire and forget, decent software has to be trained and retrained to ensure it is clocking bad mail and allowing want you want, as every company has different email policies, the software needs to be cusomized to suit what YOU deem acceptable or not.

Dont believe for a second that SpamSolutions like the little suites offered by MacAffee for $40.00 will be good for your office. Find a real solution.

STUDY the field and you will beat it without alwing ANY wanted mail to be blocked or ANY SPAM to come in. Most high end solutions come with their own appliance to further reduce your server loads,

Here's a few places to START looking.

The advice to not trust consumer-grade antispam is a good one. Also, be prepared to spend some time to "train" the product, but it is time well spent.

Three recommendations, depending on which appeals most to your comfort level:

ORF from VamSoft (http://www.bamsoft.com/orf/). It is an event sink that plugs into Exchange's SMTP service. DNS black lists, subject & e-mail body filtering, whitelists, and protection against dictionary attacks. We use it and out of the box it elimiated 90% of our spam. After tuning it's now more like 98%, with no false positives. Cost is $199.00 US

IMGate (http://imgate.meiway.com). Originally designed as a front-end for iMail, it can front-end *any* SMTP server. Basically, is a specifically tuned version of PostFix on FreeBSD. Requires a separte box, but can run on nearly any onl computer you hae lying around. Cost: free, but you need to have some linux expertise to use it.

XWall: (http://www.dataenter.co.at/products/xwall.htm). Another add-on for MS-Exchange. I've never used it, but I've heard many good things about it. Cost $398US

Hope this helps

look into the outsourced solution from Postini.
Quick, easy setup, simple for users. They have a version for SMB which is reasonably priced and also nails infected messages as well as spam.
