SPAM products which are best

By California Dead Head ·
How do you stop SPAM for you company? I have W2000 exchange on a w2000 network with about 200 mailboxes. What would you recommend to filter SPAM? Software, Hardware Filter, Gateway server. What is good and what is bad? How does your company do it??

I use two products.

Open Relay Filter: Very cool product that uses public spam databases downloaded daily to block spam. Lots of extra control through this as well. If you have any legitimate email blocked you can whitelist the domain so that it does not get blocked in the future. Best part of it is it is only $99 per exchange server.

Scan Mail eManager: Not as powerfull as ORF but gets it blocks alot of spam. This is an add on for the ScanMail virus scanning system for Exchange.

Both products filter at the SMTP Virtual Server.

I only have 20 users and use MessageXchange. It is a third party solution and only costs me $25 per month. I changed our MX record to point to their server, they scan and then forward the email to me. There is only a couple of second delay in delivery. You can have all bad mail sent to a special address so you can preview it or just have them lose the bad mail. They allow whitelisting, scan for spam and viri. It's the best $25/month we've ever spent.
