Speeding up Internet Explorer

I recently read an article about speeding up internet explorer by changing the registry to allow for multiple connections to web pages, and download servers to accellerate browse/download speeds. however, the article didn’t include instructions for win xp, and the registry hacks suggested didn’t help.
Any suggestions?
