SQL Server 2000 to 2005 - no go

By mg_roberts ·
Well, we are trying to upgrade from SQL server 2000 to SQL server 2005. the only problem is, we can't copy the data from one server to the other. Does anyone know how to copy a database from a box with 2000 to a box with 2005? thanks.

The only way I know

is to export the DDLs and data to files and then import them into the new system. Good Luck

i'm not sure if this is what you meant or not. but the way we had to do it was.... detach the database, copy the files from the data folder, the database file and the log file. transfer them to the new server, and attach them on the new server. seemed to work well. now we can't get replication working properly

Not what we have been doing

Basically we scripted a way to export the database tables out to create .sql representing the create table statement (DDL). We also exported all the data into Pipe delmited ascii files. We hten ran the DDLs on the new DB and imported using DTS the data. Using scripts it wasn't that bad.
