Standby and Hibernate not available

By wprejean ·
My hard drive crashed on my Compaq Presario 2700T notebook. After I loaded a fresh install of Windows XP Home, Standby or Hibernate are no longer options. I know you are supposed to be able to go to the Control Panel under Power Settings to activate Hibernate, but only if the Hibernate tab is visible. I have a new drive on order and will be deciding whether to start with a clean XP load or attempt to use the Compaq Rescue disks. Bottom line, is there some type of sofware or configuration that can be done to activate Hibernate and Standby?

i believe it is because the compaq requires a special hibernate file or even partition. all will be explained on the compaq website. it is likely to have step by step instructions about this very topic. very good to visit. i recommend you apply the latest ROMpaqs and driver paqs for your notebook..

I ended up using the Compaq restore disk on my new hard drive and the Standby and Hibernate are available, so it must be some special file(s) that are needed.

I would check the BIOS to make sure that Power State S3 (standby) and S4 (hibernate) are available and enabled. If these are disabled, your operating system will not allow access to tabs relating to these options.

Hope this helps.

These options are found in the APM or ACPI options under "Power Management" in the BIOS.

It was working without changes to the BIOS, so I assume the answer lies in special files provided by COMPAQ.
