start up

By hstone111 ·
after starting my desktop (Dell dimension running ME) I enter Ctl/Alt/Del and there is a long list of programs running. If I del all but "explorer" my machine runs a lot faster. How do I prevent these progams from automatically starting every time I start up?

You need to identify what the programs are first.

Some of them may be necessary to correctly run your hardware.

Others could be part of anti-virus or other software.

Printer drivers will sometimes also show up on the list.

Startup

type MSCONFIG in your run command box. Then the easy way is to go into your startup tab and uncheck the programs/files that you do not want to load...BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!
you can really mess things up if your not sure what your turning off. As the above post indicated find out what each item is before you turn it off! Good Luck!
