Stop number appearing in memo field

By Blackcurrant ·

I have a user who has constructed a simple database in Access 2000. The last three fields in the database are number, number, memo.

What happens is that if "1" is entered in the first number field, then "2" is entered in the second number field, when the focus is shifted to the memo field, a "3" will be automatically inserted.

The user would like to know how this can be stopped. I know very little about Access
and would appreciate any help you can give me.

Go to the design view of your table and change the datatype from autonumber to number

Hi, chitosunday, thanks for answering my question. Both the number fields are set to number and not autonumber. Thanks for trying though.

Hi there
I may be wrong, but I think the only way to do this without having that happen is to enter the data in a form instead of a table. I know it's a major pain, but can your user go through the "make table wizard"? It should put all the fields in tab order, it won't look pretty, but at least it will work. I don't think you'll have to change your number, number, memo fields either - maybe make the memo one bigger. I hope it works for you.

Hi, hmgeri - a good answer, but the user needs to be able to see the data from the previous records while inputting. Thanks for answering.
