Hope this will help...

Have you checked that it is not in the startup folder? MS like to stick stuff in there. Worth a quick click or two.

Stop Outlook starting automatically

by lchdavid In reply to Stop Outlook XP from star ...

Windows XP uses Hcontrol.exe to open the key "HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail" and query value "HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook\shell\open\command\(Default)".

In order to stop it starting, you can just delete the key or change the value. Or disable Hcontrol.exe at the start center (run "msconfig").

But one thing I'm not sure why microsoft disigned this function????? Can any one help to explain what does it designed for?
