Well I think the simplest way would be to migrate your PCs to an NT based Operating system such as Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. You could then lock down the workstations so that only administrator could install software...

It won't stop all software installation, but you could disable the floppy and CD drives in BIOS settings, and lock the bios with a password.

Or, remove the floppy and CD drives, and install case locks.

We use a product called Fortres 101. It locks the computer down. Only what is on the desktop can be run. It can be configured to not allow any software to be loaded. A great program.

There are 2 different ways to solve it:

Education and awareness of the users
including a record in their file that
they are not allowed to install software
themselves and the top reasons why you force this
policy.

Challenge the users withtechnology, locks, etc

For a smaller and steady amount of employees I suggest training. Bigger companies need technology mabye together with an awareness policy.

By the way - if your network has internet and or email, you dont need floppy drives...

Good luck
