I’ve been asked to look at an HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop. Initially it was thought the dc jack needed replacement, it would charge only at the proper angle. I’ve removed the jack which was as expected somewhat loose and temporarily wired the ac adapter to the board and have successfully charged the battery with the computer off.
The issue now is the computer will not charge while it is on. It will charge only when the computer is off. I’m hoping there is a brilliant suggestion out there for this issue.
It sounds like system software is blocking charging, thinking the wrong ac adapter is attached, but the voltages seem correct.
