Strange Outlook 2k2/Exchange 2k behavior

By jlawson2004 ·
I'm running Outlook 2002 and Exchange 2000. The problem is that when I send a message to a local receipient, the message stays in my outbox until some event occurs. By an event I mean, by clicking on an e-mail in my inbox or just clicking on a folder in my folder view, this causes the message to send. This also happens for messages that I receive. An event has to occur for the message to show up in my inbox. This behavior seems really weird and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what may be causing this. Thanks!

I think I solved it. It has to do with the Internet Connection Firewall not allowing the UDP packets which exchange uses to notify of new messages.

You may also want to Check in Tools / Options, Mail Setup (tab), under the Send/Receive heading make sure that send immediately when connected is selected, and select the Send/Receive button and check out the options there. You can schedule a Send/Receive to happen in as little as 1 minute.
