Strange Outlook 2k2/Exchange 2k behavior

I’m running Outlook 2002 and Exchange 2000. The problem is that when I send a message to a local receipient, the message stays in my outbox until some event occurs. By an event I mean, by clicking on an e-mail in my inbox or just clicking on a folder in my folder view, this causes the message to send. This also happens for messages that I receive. An event has to occur for the message to show up in my inbox. This behavior seems really weird and I’m hoping someone can shed some light on what may be causing this. Thanks!
