Stump Everyone with this! Auto Logon Se

By ArielStarfire ·
I installed W2KPro on my home computer, and selected the option to allow it to use the current logon name and password as the default or "assume the same user always" ( I think that is what it said) user name and password. The result is that every time you start it up, the same User Name and Password are used and you never get the option to change it or long on as another user, it just bypasses the logon screen all together.

I have renamed that user account, so that when you start up and get to the logon screen, it can't find that user and asks you to input another. But I can not stop if from looking for that default user, or turn off that option.

How do you do it!

1) Under control panel go to users and passwords
2) Under Users tab, check the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box.
3) Under Advanced tab check the Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete before logging on checkbox
4) Click apply and ok

hope this helps.

Hi,
Autologon is determined by the following registry keys -

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon"

DefaultUsername
DefaultPassword
AutoAdminLogon

set autoadminlogon to 0 (zero) to stop the problems you are having.

This might work...I don't like messing with the registry though. 8-)

Ditto on Beer Monsters answer (#2)....AutoAdminLogon from 1 to 0. Thought I would add this: if, in general, you DO want to autologin, but occasionally need to go in as different user, you can use the 'Shift' key to interrupt the autologin, and force the Login dialog box. Simplest way to do so is to utilize the 'Logoff....' option, and immediately hold the SHIFT key down; you will receive the usual Login dialog for entering your alternate user. If you don't hold the SHIFT button down soon enough, the system will autologin your DefaultLogin/Password again.

Can't agree with BeerMonster on the DefaultPassword part (sorry BeerMonster). That is NT4 stuff and doesn't exist in Win2k anymore.
A very neat solution for you is, to download the TweakUI for Win2k from Microsoft's PowerToys.
It has a lot of nicefeatures, like speeding up your menues or getting rid of uneccessary animations AND you find an interface for Autologin, which even works on Win2k server- the ONLY way to configure Autologin for Server.
