Subject: Slave HD Still Not found
From: Jim Cooley jwcooley@ieee.org

The C: drive on my IBM Aptiva with Windows 98 SE was a Quantum Big Foot.
I installed a Seagate Barracuda 100 GB Ultra AT/100 according to instructions,
intending to make the new Barracuda C: (master) and the old Big Foot (slave). I set the junpers.(Big Foot has
no jumper for slave).
The installation went well. Everything runs fine from the new disk. However, it does not recognize the slave,
i.e. the old Big Foot. I replaced the Big Foot with another drive, as slave and it worked fine. I tried it
with another HD and it worked. I reinstalled the Big Foot and it still does not work.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

could be the circuit board on the HD

could be the board on the HD
I think it could be the circuit board on the HD that could be the problem.

You could try to set the the bigfoot hd to master and see if it comes up, even though slave works well with other hds but at this point looks like the board is bad on the hd in my opinion.

Look on the circuit board for Jumper

by tomjohnson In reply to Subject: Slave HD Still N ...

Your Big Foot drive has got to have someway to change Master to Slave. Most jumpers are on the back but some drives are actualy on the board of the drive. These jumpers are usually very small.
I would google the drive and look for drawings to indicate where they are.

Answers 3 and 4 are right.

The Big Foot has the Jumper Block on the circuit Bd rather than at the back where the cables plug in. The link in post 3 shows where it is and how to set it.
