Suitable Firewall, ASA or other…

by ohm.paul . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I have been researching many firewalls lately and have narrowed my search to the ASA 5510 (~$2300) for our medium sized business. We will be hosting our own website within a month and need to beef up security greatly. The site deals with a database of sensitive information so the firewall needs to be sufficient.

Our current configuration has a Cisco IAD 2400 router (supplied by the ISP) which does just about nothing since we can’t configure it, and the ISP just leaves all ports open, expecting you to install a firewall behind it.

I have heard a great deal of people saying that Cisco firewalls perform well, but are a little overpriced. If this is so, what are some other firewall options with sufficient security for my situation? My impression was that the ASA would be plenty in terms of security, but if there is another product that has similar strength then I will broaden my purchase options.

I would like to purchase the firewall within the next couple days, so any thoughts are helpful.
