We're using ISDN to access Internet.
Can anyone help me to configure my Sun Solaris 8 to access to the Internet.
My gateway is 192.168.4.1
My Sun system IP address is 192.168.4.40
My network IP address is 192.168.4.0
My ISP DNS server IP address is 202.188.1.5
Pls advise where to set and configure.

Sun solaris to access Internet

You will need to know your netmask. For now I'll asume 24 bit (255.255.255.0). I'll assume the name of your machine is sun for this example. In /etc/hosts add a line that reads '192.168.4.40 sun loghost'. You should already have a line in /etc/hosts with your hostname and loghost and should just need to change the IP address. In /etc/netmasks insert a line that reads '192.168.4.0 255.255.255.0'. Depending on your interface (I'll assume hme0 for this example) edit /etc/hostname.hme0 and insert a line that reads 'sun' (your hostname). Edit /etc/defaultrouter and insert a line that reads '192.168.4.1'. Edit /etc/resolv.conf and insert two lines. The first is 'domain isp.domain.com' (need to get your true domain for this) The second is 'nameserver 202.188.1.5'. Edit /etc/nsswitch.conf and on the line that begins with hosts make sure it reads 'hosts: files dns'. Reboot. You can also do this with ifconfig and route to get going without rebooting, but editing the files is the only way to make the change permanent. You can catch all of this with sysunconfig (which will reboot and prompt you to answer questions) but it is a good idea to be familiar with the files so you can make changes later if necessary in just one place. I hope this helps. Good luck.
