Superlinks, Linux lessons, leadership, wacky WLANs

SUPERLINKS, LINUX LESSONS, LEADERSHIP, WACKY WLANs, OS WORSHIP, AND
SECULAR MORALITY

Despite what the title above may suggest, it's actually been a slow
week in the TechRepublic community, with the exception of our "Too Hot"
threads, which are getting a fresh infusion of cultural controversy.
Oh, and this whole blogging thing seems pretty popular. Who knew?
http://techrepublic.com.com/1200-22-5713463.html

That said, it's time to shake things up again, so we're going to fix
your browser Favorites and Bookmarks. And before you tell us that
there's nothing wrong with your Favorites and Bookmarks, consider this:
How long does it take you to port your Bookmarks and Favorites from one
computer to the next? How easy is it for you to share an entire list of
hyperlinks with others? How often do other people update your Bookmarks
and Favorites with the best resources from around the Web?

Still think your links couldn't use some improvement? Look for our
solution to these problems in the form of a new site feature in the
next few days. We think it's pretty cool.

community team? Post it in this discussion.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: JMGARVIN

Anybody want to learn bash scripting, or get some advanced Linux
training? Then check out JMGARVIN'S BLOG, where he's all but teaching a
class on these subjects right from your Web browser.
http://techrepublic.com.com/5247-6257-0.html?id=4093177

You can probably trust the material, since JMGARVIN is already an IT
instructor working on his PhD, and just for good measure, he's written
his own streaming media software. You can get to know this hacker of
academia by viewing his complete member profile.

TAG, YOU'RE IT: LINUX

Additional reading for JMGARVIN's course on Linux can be found using
the linux tag. Heck, even if you just want to stay in sync with the
buzz (and downloads) relating to the ultimate open source OS, this tag
will keep you up to date on all points pertaining to the penguin.

SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT: LEADERSHIP

Newly minted member GOCUBS has already blogged the eternal question,
what's the difference between management and leadership? We've all had
managers in our day, but have any of us ever been in the presence of,
or ourselves been, a leader?
http://techrepublic.com.com/5254-6257-0.html?forumID=99&threadID=175380&messageID=1781492&id=4147583

It's a subject worth blogging about, and we encourage you to do so.
Thusly, this week's featured blog subject and blog tag is leadership.
Use this tag to mark your own leadership blog entries, and to keep
track of what others have to say about leadership, both inside IT and
out.

LAST WEEK'S MOST ACTIVE TECHNICAL Q&A QUESTIONS

WINDOWS 2000 AND INTERNET EXPLORER
TechRepublic member ZLITO is trying to troubleshoot a small office
network employing a strange cocktail of wired and wireless
connectivity, including an unusual union of Windows 2000 and Bluetooth.
Mix it all together with a DSL connection and you get a computer that
is DNS-invisible. See if you can concoct a solution to this bizarre
conundrum.

LAST WEEK'S MOST ACTIVE DISCUSSIONS

SO MANY ZEALOTS, SO LITTLE TIME
TechRepublic member JDCLYDE (You remember him, from a certain
divorce-related discussion?) criticized many in the tech sector and the
TR community for blind loyalty to Microsoft products, calling such
technological monogamy a "religion of OS worship." Of course, this lit
the flames of another Linux vs. Windows debate, with some intriguing
and impassioned comments on both sides. Take a look.

"TOO HOT FOR TR"

The following discussions were sufficiently non-technical or
controversial to be suppressed from the Hot and New Discussions lists.

WHAT THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT WON'T ACCEPT: MORAL VALUES WITHOUT RELIGION!
Speaking of worship, member SLEEPIN' DAWG leapt into the briar patch of
one of our more thorny social issues: Are morality and secularism
mutually exclusive? Put another way, is it possible to be without
faith, but still be a moral person? As you might imagine, this thread
has some teeth to it--enough to push both of our evolution threads out
of the limelight for a while. See this little skirmish of the culture
war for yourself.
