Synch Workstation with NTP Server

By qhcomputingny ·
Is there a way to write a login script that will allow a user on a Win2k workstation that doesn't have admin credentials to automatically synch with an NT 4.0 Time Server on the network? Any information would be appreciated.

Are you running a NT4 domain, with NT4 PDC and BDC servers?
I ask this because it sounds like it, with the NT4 Time Server.

Say the NT4 Time server has a machine name of \\TIME

To get the workstation clients to sync up, do two things.

First, open User Manager for Domains on your PDC. Click Policies -> USer Rights
Select the right "change the system time" and add the Domain Users to this right.

Ok. Now in your Logon scripts for all users, put in the following line:

NET TIME \\TIME /SET /Y

That will sync the clients up to the time server.

hope this helps
