I am trying to install windows xp professional on a formatted maxtor 120 gb. harddrive but I get a message fatal error: sxs.dll syntax error in manifest or policy file. D:\I386\asms\1000\msft\windows\gdiplus\gdiplus.man on line 4. How do I resolve this issue and load windows from my cd? I welcome any suggestions. Thanks. MMN.

Take a look at this discussion thread on this same problem here:

Basically, a lot of people have had this same problem. Many people were able to resolve it by using a putting a different CD-ROM into the computer, then doing the install. So, try that. Do you have another CD-ROM or a DVD-ROM that you can use for the install? A different CD-ROM to put the XP cd in to do the install?
      hope this helps
