I have a HP Pavilion P6350 with AMD K-6 2/333 processor and 64MB RAM and WIN98. This machine has ALOT of programs loaded by the owner. Within 1 minute after booting to the 98 desktop, system resources plummet down to 1%. System then cannot be turnedoff normally nor will it perform ANY functions.
The following tasks have already been performed:
1) Empty C:\Temp, C:\Windows\Temp folders.
2) Delete all Temporary Internet Files.
3) Rename Autoexec.Bat and Config.sys
4) Thorough Scandisk and Defragmentation
5) Run Regclean
6) Remove ALL startup items leaving only Explorer and Systray.
7) Remove one 30 MB chip and add 128 MB of memory, total 158MB.
8) Uninstall CD-ROM drives, (there were about 17 listed in Device Manager and have Windows readd that device successfully).
9) Uninstall and physically remove the Modem (LT WIN MODEM) and the NIC (NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter). These rae currently not installed.
