sytem disk failure

By fmandizvidza ·
I switched off my machine(dell gn+) with a win98 operating system revoved a floppy drive and when i switched it on it gave an invalid system disk error. I then tried to boot from a floppy(win98 boot disk) and when i changed the drive to c: it would do , but any command i would type thereafter would not do (like dir).Used a magic bullet disk and got no viruses, tried norton recovery disk and got invalid media reading drive c:, when i slave the HDD I can see it in windows , but can not access it.If I run norton recovery disk from within another disk i cxan see the folders on my HDD but can not restore them. Please assist

System disc failure

by pnr In reply to sytem disk failure

I have resently had an experincy with Windows Xp, where I changed the jumper settimgs on my primary & seconary HDD to CS (cable select) after upgrading to bigger HDD's. It ran "normal" in a period of 7-14 days. After that it intermident reportet "Disc reading error" when booting the OS (Windows XP-Home Edition) and some times it worked, but later on it reported "Disc error - reading drive "X".
After change the jumper settings from CS to MASTER on the primary disc and SLAVE on the seondary disc, my sytstem has functioned perfect.

Perhaps these settings can solve Your problems ?

Try booting from your win98 startup disk and run fdisk /mbr to replace the master boot record
