Taking ownership on NTFS partition

My hard drive was damaged. Upon booting I get c0000218 error. (Registry hive file is corrupt). I received solution stating I could copy this file but ten I will risk loosing the My Document folder. Sine this folder has all my data I wish not loose it. So I installed an another new hard drive as C: and the damaged drive as slave D:
I re-installed XP. The system is up. I could see drive D: but when I click on My Documents folder in the drive D: it tells me Access Denied to this folder.
Question:
How do I prevent this accessing problem. I researched that some password file need to be delelted then it will permit me. Which file is this? Or any other solution highly appreciated.
drives are NTFS.
