I know they are almost completely useless, but since you have gone to the effort to make it so that people’s teck points show in discussion posts by thier names, at what level does that display move up?

It says 10K by my name, yet currently I have:

TechPoints 22495

when does it change to indicate I have over 20k techpoints?

If you give them away, it’s deducted from the total. For example, I have “earned” well over 500k, but have given a lot of them away.

Do you want 3,000 of mine? That’ll put you over the 25k.

The questions are all made up and the points don’t matter.

I have in the 265K range right now, and I’ve given away about that same number, so it would be well over the 500K had I kept them all. I’ve posted some HIGH point questions, not because of the degree of difficulty, but for exposure.

Back when they had the top 5 questions list, ranked according to points awarded, I could have a question parked on the top of the list forever, drawing all sorts of attention and interest. For example, several years ago I was asked to give a presentation to a group of parents at my son’s school about the perils of the Internet, and what they could do to protect, monitor, or otherwise be more aware of what was going on. So I opened a question worth 50,000 points, asking for thoughts and ideas, and it stayed parked on top of the list, generating all sorts of answers, until I closed it. I think I accepted every answer to that question, and most all answers to most of the questions.

The little number by our alias, however, is different than the top 5 scorers list used to be. On that list, the points given away weren’t deducted; but on the colored tag by the alias, they are. That doesn’t really make sense to me, as it encourages hoarding points. But then, on the other hand, what good does it do to hoard the points?

I’d like the top 5 scorers list to return. I was on the top of the list for about a year, and then dklippert flew by me like I was standing still (maybe because I was). When they removed the list, it was dklippert, Joseph Moore, TheChas, Maxwell Edison, and dmiles (formerly soulrider), in that order, top to bottom.

I’ve probably dropped out of the top 5 by now, since I rarely answer questions any more. I seem to spend all my TR time either abusing or being abused in the discussion forums. And it’s kinda’ funny. My “character”, if you will, has really undergone a metamorphosis of sorts over the years I’ve been around. I think I’ve gone from one extreme to the other in a lot of ways, but the “real me” probably lies somewhere in the middle. I guess it all boils down to this: I spend (and have spent) WAY TOO MUCH time on this site.

Great, now we’re going to start swapping useless points. Post a question, over value the answer, and accept only your buddy’s answer.

It doesn’t look like there’s any opportunity for a “Points Broker” to make a 15% commission on the trade, so it’s obviously uncapitalistic. Homeland Security will then define the activity as a threat to national security and start bugging the few TR members it hasn’t gotten to yet. Next thing you know, all our correspondence will be edited or blacked out or somethinjka . asdf . dfsd . eqwq . eqrr . 4124 . 3134 . 45zs . 42 . 42 . 42 . 42 .42.42.42. . . . …..
