TechRepublic and iffy sponsors

By tom.anderson ·
Hi All

As a user of the Web of Trust (WOT) extension in Firefox I was shocked to see their material on a registry cleaner add I clicked on at the TechRepuplic website.

Should we not expect only the very best (safest/useful) software/services to be advertised here.

I confess I am now a little wary of clicking through TechRepublic adds now.

What does everyone else think

Cheers Tom

I wouldn't worry to much

after all, it's easy to report a site falsely.
it's hard to get a site removed after such a report.

tools like the WOT extension prey on people's misconception about the veracity of the data being reported.

just like the "trusted" certificate authorities list LIES by implying the certificate vendor endorses a site because it uses their certificate.

Firefox refuses any cert not signed by a CA on the list of "trusted" CAs. yet the CA has nothing to do with how the site owner does business. The CA has nothing to do with the site, other than verifying that such a company / person really does exist.
