I have several templates (which bring up forms) on my PC. Word 2002 opens them very slowly. I have tried several things, deleting normal.dot, reinstalling Office XP and others. When I make a change to a specific autotext, it seems to help with opening the templates regularly, but when I close out of word and get back in the same problems occur. I have also tried reinstalling the templates. Any .dot file opens slowly. Any suggestions. I have all updates, and am running Win XP and Office XP.

Norton AntiVirus has been known to cause this sort of problem. If you don't have NAV, then this is off target. If you do use NAV, however, then you may want to look at this link:
Try checking under tools/templates and addins to verify that there are no documents being referenced that do not exist. I've seen where this will lock up word when a document is opened as it tries to find the document and fails.
Use the profile wizard for Protecting Against Macro Viruses.
Setting Security Levels in Office Applications Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint can be set to a high, medium, or low security level.
High security Macros must be signed by a trusted source. Otherwise, macros in documents are automatically disabled without notice when the documents are opened. Word is set to the high security level by default.
The Profile Wizard is a new tool that started with Microsoft Office 2000 that helps you deploy Office 2000 with specific Office user profile information.

I can also delete the Word Key or Data Key from my registry and this helps until I get out of word. When I go back into word, I have the same problems.
