    Terminal Server “Terminating Connection”

    Locked

    by chawkins ·

I have a user running terminal server client on an NT 4 Workstation SP5 connecting to an NT 4.0 Terminal Server SP5, who gets booted out of the session after 5 or so minutes with the error “Terminating Connection.” She is running the same app that others are running, but she is only one with problems. There are no session timeout settings enabled for single user ID that is used by everyone logging on to the terminal server to run this app in a session. They are logged on to their workstation astheir normal user ID. She does not lose her network connection and all of her other apps are fine. Anyone ever have a problem like this?

I have experienced this problem before and, for the most part, it has turned out to be the equipment on the user’s end. Either the machine has been running out of resources or the hardware needs to be flash upgraded because there are bugs in the existing rev level. Try to determine if the equipment is the same as everyone elses.

I have also seen this happen when clients use the Alt+Tab keys to switch between windows.

I think the resources on that PC are fairly low… I wasn’t aware that Terminal sessions were more sensitive to that than other apps, but it makes sense. I know they are very bandwidth sensitive… a few dropped packets and you get booted. Maybe thelow resources is causing dropped packets. That’s probably it… Thanks!
