General discussion

The MY Discussions link...and other issues.

By Jay Garmon Contributor ·
As many of you have noted (and been upset by), the My Discussions link has disappeared from the upper navigation of the TechRepublic community pages. Never fear, it's not gone, just moved.

In the new upper navigation, you can click on View Profile on see a completely new Peer Directory page, complete with a synopsis of your Discussions and Tech Q&A activity. If you click on the Discussions tab on the profile, you get a full detail of Discussions and Tech Q&As that you've participated in, started, and subscribed to.

That said, we honestly didn't realize everyone would miss the My Discussions link so much, so that feature will return in short order. If there are any other issues or suggestions (or, luck willing, compliments) you'd like to share about the new profile system, or the TR community in general, please feel free to post them here. We're eager to hear from you.

As I've mentioned before

Jay... rename the link to "activity" or something along those lines if you want to keep the current configuration. Personally, I like the amalgamation of the features into one section.

Oh yeah and change the order of the tabs as I've suggested elsewhere.

It's that extra click to view our discussions that might bug the others.

I just noticed something.

On our Profile and Contacts page we are described by our alias.

On the Discussions and T Q&A page, we are described by our name.

I suspect that I speak for others, that while I have nothing to hide, I prefer to have my alias listed.

That should be fixed now

Let us know if your "offline" names pop up somewhere else.

I would have to say my only negative thing I would comment on is the My Discussions link disappearing.

Other than that, the changes that have been made here have been definately noticed by myself and I really like what I'm seeing.

Very good work TR!!!

You should be proud of yourselves!

why make the change, without notifying people?

I found out about it when I went to the discussion center.

and I agree with house, instead of view profile link at top of page, activity link, with discussions / q&a up first in the tabs, rather than the profile.
since there is already a second profile link on top of page. ( waste of space to put 2 links to same thing )

you're forgiven

I agree. The only negative comment I would have is the My Discussions link disappearing.

Besides that, Techrepublic is doing a great job. Of all my IT contacts that I've spoken to, and publicized your site too, I have only received positive feedback on TR's value to them.

Keep it up, and "don't be evil".....
